Ripple Current and Immersion Winter of 2012
We're entering our third year of youth ministry together and here's what we've got so far for the winter of 2012:

In January, we'll prepare shepherd's pie for a dinner and serve it at The Ronald McDonald house on Martin Luther King day (12/17/11).  Volunteers needed! In February, the PENGUIN PLUNGE!!!  Saturday February 4th. More details, and the way to begin fund raising for this excellent cause (VT Special Olympics): http://www.firstgiving.com/vtso/2012-burlington-penguin-plunge    In March, save the date 3/9-3/10 for the 30 hour fast!

Tuesday Evenings: 5:00 Ripple Current (5th - 9th graders)* 6:30 Shared Meal 7:00 Ripple Immersion (8th - 12th graders)* 9:00 Close @ Ascension Lutheran Church 95 Allen Road South Burlington, VT 05401  Themes January 3 Ripple Current: Being There for Friends Ripple Immersion: Suicide Prevention with guest speaker Hollis Easter Hotline Coordinator for Reachout, a 24 hour crisis hotline. January 17 Ripple Current: Re-educating Ourselves and Our Society for Peace Ripple Immersion: Reeducating Ourselves and Our Society for Peace with guest speaker Dot Maver, President of the National Peace Academy.   January 31 - Ripple Special ...TBD... (If there is snow, maybe sledding...)   February 7 Both Groups: u. Question: Why do my parents seem to be so stupid compared to other adults? Answer via Mark Twain: "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years." ;-) February 21- Ripple Current: Awareness About Youth in War Torn Places Ripple Immersion: Heartbreaking Healing Stories from Sudan with guest speaker Abraham Awolich, Founder and President of Sudan Development Foundation and one of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan. (This date is not yet firm and may switch with the topic on Feb. 7 or March 6 or 20. Stay tuned.)   March 6 Both Groups: The Story of Stuff: Changing the Way We Consume as Earth Stewards   March 20 Both Groups: Healing the Church - How do we reconcile or reclaim our faith in the Jesus traditions when others monger hate in Jesus' name?

PEDALS FOR PROGRESS - September 17, 2011, 8:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

On September 17th we can help them do just that! Ripple will be meeting at the Burlington Electric Department on Pine Street to help collect and load hundreds of used bikes into shipping containers so that folks around the world can make a living with a leg up!

Friday - Saturday, March 25 -26, 2011 - 30 Hour Fast for the Hungry (and Thirsty) Fasting starts at 1PM on Friday. Drop off at the event is at 5PM. We stay together over night until we break our fast with dinner at 7PM. Pick up is at 8PM on Saturday. this event is at Faith United Methodist Church 899 Dorset Street, South Burlington.
